The technology centre CEIT, a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA), has taken a step forward in its advanced manufacturing capacity after acquiring Spain’s first 3D Desktop Metal Production SystemTM [P-1] printing machine. By purchasing this machine, the technology centre will be able to research the additive manufacturing of additional materials, such as titanium, aluminium, copper or those based on new types of powder obtained through atomisation at its pilot plant.
Designed to bridge the gap between development and mass production, the equipment installed in the materials and manufacturing division at its atomisation pilot plant last March enables complex, high-quality parts to be produced for the most demanding applications. It also offers the possibility of increasing the centre’s research capacity with state-of-the-art Binder Jetting technology. The printing process using this technology consists mainly of the spot plating of a binding liquid on a powder bed that is then consolidated, leading to increased production speed and flexibility.
The parts produced with this system have absolutely transversal applications ranging from the aeronautical or automotive sector to machine-tooling or jewellery, as well as bio-medicine.
CEIT has more than 35 years’ experience in powder metallurgy, which means that it is present throughout the entire additive manufacturing value chain, from design and powder production to the validation of the final part.
