AIMEN TO SHOWCASE ITS LATEST ADVANCES IN ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AT FORMNEXT 2024

29 October, 2024

AIMEN Technology Centre will participate in Formnext 2024, the international reference fair for additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing, to be held in Frankfurt from 19 to 22 November. The entity will be located in Hall 11.0, stand B35, where it will exhibit the latest results of its research in additive manufacturing technologies, both in metal (with laser and arc DED processes) and in composites (FFF printing, LFAM robotic manufacturing, and development of filaments and pellets). AIMEN will also present its capabilities in advanced composite manufacturing (thermoplastics and thermosets, AFP, RTM, LRI and thermoforming technologies) and in smart and functional materials, with applications in sectors such as automotive, aeronautics and energy.

Innovation in R&D projects: DaCapo, PIONEER and CAELESTIS

AIMEN will give special visibility to three R&D projects that drive innovation in advanced manufacturing: DaCapo, PIONEER and CAELESTIS.

  1. DaCapo Project: This project aims to improve the adoption of Circular Economy (CE) strategies along the value chains and life cycle of manufacturing products. In collaboration with GKN Aerospace, AIMEN develops advanced repair strategies for titanium components using laser DED technology, also known as LMD.This approach contributes to more sustainable and efficient manufacturing, addressing key repair and reuse needs in the aerospace industry.
  2. PIONEER project: Focused on optimising data management along the materials value chain, PIONEER enables a multi-directional data flow that connects all stages of the production process. This project combines simulation-based design and quality data to improve product development in high-mix, low-volume production schemes. One of its pilots, in collaboration with MX3D, applies WAAM additive manufacturing technology in the construction sector, addressing metal structure applications.
  3. CAELESTIS project: Focused on the additive manufacturing of aeronautical components in metal and composites, CAELESTIS uses digital twins to ensure defect-free manufacturing. This project is committed to the implementation of advanced technologies to achieve high precision and quality standards in the aerospace industry, promoting competitiveness and efficiency in the manufacture of complex components.

Technical presentations on innovation in additive manufacturing

In addition to its exhibition, AIMEN will have the active participation of its experts in two technical presentations:

  • Miguel Otero, who will present ‘Advanced Characterization Technologies for Cement-based materials in 3D Printing Applications’ on 19 November at 16:00, on the Application Stage in hall 11.1.
  • Ander Reizabal will present ‘Advanced Strategies for Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing of High-Performance Cryogenic Storage Components’ on 20 November at 12:40 in hall 11.1.

AIMEN's participation in Formnext 2024 highlights its commitment to the development of advanced manufacturing technologies that boost sustainability and industrial competitiveness. The implementation of innovative methods and the collaboration with leading companies position AIMEN as a benchmark in additive manufacturing and advanced materials, key areas for the future of strategic sectors such as aeronautics, automotive and energy.
