The High Performance Manufacturing Group of the UPV/EHU is a group of teachers and researchers that provides training and research in additive manufacturing techniques. Specifically, it carries out its activity at the Bilbao School of Engineering and at the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing in Aeronautics (CFAA). The CFAA is a research centre whose objective is to work with a direct and close approach to the industrial fabric in the aerospace and machine tool sector. Within the activity of the CFAA, the development of metal Additive Manufacturing processes stands out, which have been investigated by the Research Group since 2004.
The group provides training related to additive manufacturing in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees. In terms of research activity, R&D&I projects are carried out at a wide range of technological maturity levels, from basic research in additive manufacturing processes (TRL3) to the development and fine-tuning of industrial processes (TRL7). The lines of research are framed in direct material deposition processes (DED laser and arc) and powder bed fusion processes (Laser PBF). In both cases, work is being carried out on the digitalisation of the process and the creation of digital twins, as well as the characterisation of additive parts. In terms of equipment, the group has state-of-the-art systems, as well as various sensors and measuring equipment to verify the manufactured parts.
